Abstract
In the last few years, different types of educational systems have been developed with different objectives, such as helping students prepare for assessments, helping large groups of students to graduate or even specialize at a distance, and even helping students learn a new language. In this chapter, in order to present in a practical way an approach to tailor gamified educational systems in a real scenario, we will present the tailored gamification design process of a gamified educational system called MeuTutor. The system was developed in Brazil and has already helped over 10,000 elementary and high school students to study and learn in a fun and motivating way. This chapter will begin by presenting the original gamified educational system design, before the tailoring process. It will present, as well, how the tailoring process was conducted and the final result, showing the tailored version of the system. We will also present in this chapter, an evaluation of the system, comparing the tailored and counter-tailored version of the system in terms of students’ concentration. In the end, a series of lessons learned throughout the tailoring process and system evaluation will be presented.
