Abstract
About 1.5 billion women live in extreme poverty. Still, rural women play a significant role in managing households and communities by extending their support and cooperation in achieving food and nutrition security, generating income and upgrading the standard of rural livelihood and overall well-being. They also significantly catalyse the agricultural practices and development of small-scale agro-industry and monitor local and global economies. The parochial social norms and practices prevent them from many social inclusions and make them completely handicap in exercising their right for social justice. Still, they are also an important target group for the MDGs and SDGs’ drive to bring a sustainable pattern of life free from social agony, poverty, malnutrition and hunger. But in spite of their so much crucial efforts in assuring food security, rural women confront many social barriers.
