Abstract
The eruption of Mt. Ontake, central Japan, in 2014 caused a serious casualty in spite of its eruption strength. Although the main reason for the casualty arose from the time the eruption occurred, holiday noon with good weather condition in beautiful autumn season, we could have had some chances to prevent the tragedy. Appropriate information dissemination, improvement of public literacy of volcanic activity as well as better understanding of hydrothermal volcanic eruptions will reduce the possible tragedy in future.
