Abstract

This chapter shows how a linear PDE model such as a cable model can be solved using what is called the Separation of Variables technique. This uses ideas from infinite series and theoretical notions about linear independence of various kinds of object which could be vectors or functions. The notion of a vector space and its basis and the idea of a span is introduced as well. Finally, the idea of the inner product of two functions is discussed.
