Abstract
The practice of modern medicine is simply not feasible or sustainable without technology. This technology is applied to diagnostic testing, information sharing between clinicians, analysis of best practice, patient monitoring, treatment provision and more recently expert systems to support rural and remote practice and facilitate professional development and lifelong learning. Patients are becoming more empowered and are demanding greater access to information and global best practices which presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Global evidence is available to demonstrate the positive impact technology can have on population health regardless of socio-demographic status, but before any technological solution can be implemented, there must be a suitable hardware, software and professional infrastructure available. This chapter investigates the state of preparedness for the application of technical healthcare solutions to Viet Nam.
