Hematopoietic Neoplasms and Small Round Cell Tumors

  • Chapter
Oncologic Imaging: Bone Tumors

Abstract

Hematopoietic neoplasms comprise a wide variety of diseases including myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukemia, and lymphomas that may exhibit overlapping imaging features. In this chapter we will limit our discussion to skeletal manifestations of plasma cell myeloma/solitary plasmacytoma of the bone and lymphoma of the bone, both which may present as primary tumors in the bone. Ewing’s sarcoma is classified in the miscellaneous tumor category by the World Health Organization. However, Ewing’s sarcoma may have overlapping imaging features with lymphoma, due to its histopathological feature of “small, round cells” and will be discussed in this chapter.
