Abstract
China’s ageing population is growing at an unprecedented rate. During the past three decades, the government has implemented policies and innovative engagement for older adults in the area of later life learning and community participation. The chapter briefly summarizes the development of the concept of lifelong learning and later life learning in Chinese history and its components. It focuses on in-depth review of the relevant laws, policies and national plans adopted by the central government, which have been the fundamental guidelines for the practices of later life learning in China. Meanwhile, the chapter analyses primary problems in the development of elder education and provides recommendations at macroscopic level.
