Abstract

Interpreting the maintenance, reliability strengths, and weaknesses of a microgrid system within a facility can be a huge undertaking. This paper encompasses probabilistic scrutiny of works accomplished by a variety of large-scale microgrid systems following qualitative and quantitative analysis. Generally, the qualitative approach is in compliance with the best practices of maintenance and reliability activities. Using reliability block diagram (RBD) method, reliability estimation of three different large-scale microgrid systems configured with a central inverter, string inverter, and micro-inverter structures is conducted analytically to evince the most reliable and cost-effective system design structure. Overall failure rates and mean time to failures (MTTFs) are calculated in each case and compared to see the best design topology for practical acceptance.
