Abstract

The requirement of power is rapidly increasing so that to meet the increasing demand system needs some effective solutions such as fitting of the solar-based Distributed Generator (DG) and FACTS. Penetration of solar-based DG alters network characteristics, that is, system is active now. The solar unit has many benefits but it may cause over-voltage and under-voltage at heavy load or light load, respectively. For meeting the growing electrical power requirement and addressing the issue of power quality, this paper presents a PSO-based methodology to get the optimal placement of a solar-based distributed generator and a UPFC. Two test systems are considered, i.e., IEEE 30-Bus interconnected and IEEE 33-Bus radial distribution systems are considered for validating the proposed methodology. Results prove that UPFC can improve the voltage profile under the varying load in the distribution system in the presence of DG.
