Abstract

This study investigates the influence of soil stiffness on excavation-induced wall deformation. The excavation case adopted in this study was performed in alternated subsoil layers in Hanoi with 13.5 m depth and retained by a sheet-pile anchored wall. The soil behaviour was simulated using the Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening Soil models. The soil stiffness was determined Nspt value and undrained shear strength of soil (su) (when saturated clay was treated as non-porous material). Results showed that when compared with the measured wall deflection, both the models could give reasonable predictions as long as the suitable soil stiffness was adopted.
