Abstract
Although advances in lower level anastomosing techniques have substantially reduced the use of the Miles’ operation for rectal cancer, this surgical procedure is still a good option for advanced rectal cancer when there is a limited distance between the tumor and the distal intestinal transection line. The standard operation time is 4 h, including the time needed to change the patient’s body position.
