Improved Fingerprint Recognition System Using Filtering Techniques

Abstract

The fingerprint image quality normally influences by fingerprint acquisition devices, environmental factors along with human fingerprint artifacts. Due to these image’s quality changing factors, most of the digital images contain unnecessary information. Therefore, various important modifications are needed to enhance the quality of FRS’s result. In the process of improving the image quality has been achieved using enhancement techniques such as filtering. Image filtering is a technique that can reduce the noise and unnecessary information about the image and improve the image quality. Image filtering technique also involves several additional operations like an image smoothing and image sharpening, etc. In this research paper, we proposed methodology, in which the original image is filtered by using different filters like Unsharp filter, Gaussian filter, Averaging filter. In this proposed approach compression performed between different filters and experimental results show that the “Unsharp filter” gives the improved image quality.
