Abstract

Mental disorder is mainly due to any disturbance of emotion, i.e., disturbance of cognition, conation, and affect. Cognition is the study of any kind of mental operation by which knowledge is acquired. It includes learning, memory, language, perception, i.e., awareness of sensation, reasoning, execution of tasks, and so on. Cognitive behavioral therapy (in psychiatry) is directed to alter cognition in order to treat phobia, anxiety, and extreme sadness (depression). Conation, i.e., eager to take action, can sometimes lead to adverse reactions. Affect indicates the mental state at any particular moment associated with a particular idea. The hypothalamus and limbic system are mainly concerned with the genesis of emotion. Mental disorders may be due to mood, behavioral, biological, and psychological dysfunction. It may be associated with palpitation, sweating, fear, rage, nervousness, and lack of confidence. Mental disorders are caused by multifactorial pathogenesis, including genetics, oxidative damage, and neurotransmitter dysfunction. Nutritional therapies play an important role in reducing and even preventing the severity of a mental disorder.
