Granular Materials Under Shock and Blast Loading

Abstract

This chapter deals with the response of granular materials under buried-blast loading. This chapter discusses in detail the various events involved during the interaction of blast wave with soil layers present below the ground surface. The experiments are performed using shock tube-based test facility which offers an alternative method for generating blast wave in a controlled and repeatable manner, without the use of explosives. The variation in the output of the sand ejecta is portrayed with the help of high-speed photography. The impulse and peak pressure imparted to the rigid target are presented in detail.
