Abstract
Trustworthiness is an important virtue in physicians. It is the underlying virtue which makes patients trust their physician. The social construct of trust in physicians is valuable only if it is based on the trustworthiness of the physician. There are situations where trust is placed on the untrustworthiness and vice versa. The basis of trustworthiness is the ethical practice of medicine and consistent demonstration of trustworthy behaviours by the physician. This chapter highlights the role of trustworthiness of the physician and the role of each physician as an exemplar and role model of trustworthiness for the profession to flourish.
