Abstract

Uveitis refers to a group of heterogeneous, rare, inflammatory disorders of the eye due to infectious, autoimmune, and sometimes oncologic disease. Despite an extensive workup, many cases of uveitis remain undifferentiated. This chapter covers uveitides commonly seen in children organized by anatomic location. Early and effective treatment is necessary to prevent visual disability and amblyopia. Management of uveitis in children is typically more complex than in adults owing to greater risk of adverse events with local steroids, limitations of off-label immunosuppressive agents, and unique surgical considerations.
