Abstract
This is the first acquaintance level type, and one important distinction should be made explicit here. A person can only adopt one type at the individual level, and typically just one family type, at least at a given time. However, at the acquaintance level, a person typically adopts several different types for different types of acquaintances. It is rare for someone to form just one type of acquaintance relationship, such as the associates discussed here.
