Abstract
The services of travel agents have been widely replaced by online travel websites with the advent of Web 2.0. tripadvisor, a travel and restaurant website is one of the most popular websites used by tourists to obtain information about tourist attractions. However, majority of the information are presented as user reviews. This will result in tourists having to manually search through user reviews to find the needed information which is a time consuming and tedious task. This can be eliminated by the introduction of an online tourist assistant. We present an online tourist assistant agent, that allows tourists to obtain general information about a travel destination. The user can interact by asking questions in a textual format. The semantics of the question is analyzed and an answer is generated by querying the ontology. The ontology is populated using the data and reviews obtained from the tripadvisor website.
