Abstract
What is the sense and essence of urbanism? The questions lead this study to excavate historical concepts and traces of urban phenomena, which are associated with town and city. The study attempts to divulge and uncover the relationship between people and place in various characteristics comprising governmentality, social organization, culture, and tradition of human settlement. However, the investigation of this study is focused on the sociocultural aspects of urban settlement that matter to the livability and sustainability of urbanism.
