Russian Economic Development over Three Centuries

Abstract

This chapter presents the trade statistics of (I) Imperial Russia from 1897 to 1917, (II) the Soviet Union from 1918 to 1991, and (III) the Russian Federation from 1992 to 2010, in a unified way as far as possible. The following are the outstanding features of this chapter. First, the period covered is very long, from 1897 to 2010. Next, with respect to the trade statistics since 1918, we have made a full-time series of trade at one-digit and two-digit Standard International Trade Classification. Third, as a result of having created a time series in a unified way, we have been able to clarify some problems of Russian and Soviet statistics such as the “residual” problem.
