Abstract

In this experimental analysis, mechanical and metallurgical properties of friction stir welding of aluminium alloy (AA6101-T6) are examined. A cylindrical threaded tool of high-speed steel (H13) is used for friction stir welding of working material AA6101-T6. For optimization of parameters like feed, rotational speed and tilt angle, the design of experiment considered is Taguchi method with three levels and three parameters. ANOVA statistical tool is used for optimization of parameters for tensile strength and microhardness of the weld. The microstructure of the weld surface and fractography of the fractured weld surface are studied by scanning electron microscope.
