Abstract
The latest archeological findings show that the method of ramming earth were used in constructing City Wall 4 or 5 thousands of years ago, and was used in constructing houses from Yinshang Dynasty. The techniques of ramming earth applied to construct the civilian residence, Fujian tulou, originated from Central Plains. But it is amazing that the technical level of ramming earth has been raised so high by constructing the rammed earth buildings that a miracle was created by Hakka people and the people in southern Fujian. Mr. Syunsuke Fukusima of University of the Ryukyus called tulou “a building built by using a particular materials and wonderful methods.” Where on earth is so “particular” about the materials? Where on earth is so “wonderful” about the methods? These are the questions that a lot of people are interested in.
