Abstract
This chapter begins by looking at the concept of community and how it fits with Student Centered Cooperative Learning (SCCL). Next, the chapter offers suggestions as to how SCCL can help communities meet the needs in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization needs. Some educators worry the SCCL might be especially difficult in the large classes that exist in too many parts of the world. The chapter addresses this important concern before examining the role of teachers as learners, not just teachers, within communities.
