Abstract

In this paper, the mathematic model of the thermal thinning mechanism of the lithosphere under the Qiongdongnan Basin was established. The process of thermal thinning in lithosphere during the early period since the Cretaceous and the continuous thinning process of the lithosphere during the late period was simulated. The late period thinning process was the result of the combined effects of the regional mechanical extension and the mantle upwelling process. The deep dynamic process of the formation of the Qiongdongnan Basin was studied, and it was proposed that the combination of lithosphere extension and mantle upwelling was the main cause of the formation of Qiongdongnan Basin.
