Abstract
One of the major challenges faced by developing nations nowadays is the growing gap between energy demand and supply. Also, the quick depletion of fossil fuels is adding fuel to this burning issue. Nations like India, which is fortunately bestowed with ample renewable energy, are able to see a silver lining in this scenario. The concept of microgrids in such nations would prove to be a boon, as far as reducing the main grid burden is concerned. This work reviews the electricity market evolution in India and the transition of the Indian power scenario from conventional to renewable sources of generation. A detailed analysis of the state-wise solar and wind potential in India is aptly described in this paper.
