Abstract

The target aspect estimation (TSE) is important to automatic target recognition in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, which can dramatically reduce the computational burden. In this paper, the proposed method for TSE first segments the image using two-dimensional (2D) maximum entropy threshold algorithm into target, shadow, and background. After obtaining the primary contour of target, we optimize the TSE by combining the estimation results from both Radon transform and axis information. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method are demonstrated by the experimental results with MSTAR database.
