Education Policy and Reform in China

Abstract

The development level of higher vocational education reflects the industrialization level of a country. Vocational education in China originated from the career education model of the Westernization Movement. After the foundation of New China (in 1949), Chinese vocational education, influenced by the Soviet Union, focused on training professional and technical talents. With the increased demand for talents, a pluralistic pattern of government leading but relying on enterprises, including a dynamic role for industry and the active participation of social forces, has been put forward, forming a “dual-track and overpass” style modern vocational education system.
