Abstract
As indicated in Chap. 4, the representational meanings focus on semiotic interplay in stills. The compositional meanings examined in this chapter stress how semiotic interplay in filmic units beyond stills exerts impacts on subtitle translation. Contending that the compositional meanings in subtitling are mainly transmitted through semiotic cohesion, this chapter commences with an introduction to semiotic cohesion and how it can be used to examine the compositional meanings in subtitle translation.
