Abstract

The chapter will give an overview of the situation of students with disability in an international context, focusing more on the Hungarian practise. Theoretical backgrounds will be shown on the framework of understanding disability; the history of the empowerment movements in higher education and famous persons and activists with disability. This will lead to recent legislations in the field of disability, which can be useful in higher education, the different definitions, the representation of students with disability in higher education and the services provided. The next section will show good practises on supporting students with different special needs and service provided by university disability centers, including route training, adaptation of the learning material, counseling, career management, sport, social skill training, etc. The chapter ends with a short introduction into the accessibility of Erasmus + program.
