Abstract
A wireless sensor network consists of numerous sensor nodes which are small, generally powered by batteries and have restricted energy sources. When the sensors are deployed in the environment, the energy sources of these sensors are not replaceable. Replacing or recharging these energy sources is not practically feasible. Minimization of energy consumption is one of the important design issues that must be addressed so that the lifetime of the network can be improved. In this paper, we put forward a special kind of node known as special mobile agent (SMA) for collecting the data, instead of multi-hop communication to reach the base station. The MSN gathers the sensed data from the various nodes and transmits it to the base station. Thereby, the usage of power in the network is comparatively reduced that enhances the network lifetime. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared with other clustering schemes like low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) and LEACH centralized (LEACH-C). Results of the simulation prove that by using special mobile agent to collect the data, number of data transmission decreases and the lifetime of the network enhances. The results were obtained by using NS-2 simulator that proves the improvement of overall network efficiency over existing protocols based on two parameters such as consumption of energy and number of packets delivered.
