Abstract

The Age of Exploration—sometimes also referred to as the Age of Discovery—was a period during which the Western world began to look outwards. The rebirth of knowledge and humankind’s interest in its own place in the world marked by the Renaissance set the stage for the application of much of what had been learned since about 1300.
