Silk Road to Belt Road

Abstract

The One Belt One Road (OBOR) project is a driving force to strengthening integration and cooperation for ‘holistic development’ in terms of economic, political and social development involving the Eurasian countries. China has already declared to build mega infrastructural projects within the Belt and Road areas to increase trade for regional economic development through cultural assimilation and political tolerance irrespective of political ideology, religion and ethnic identity of the individual state. Bangladesh along with the other neighboring countries has already expressed interest in actively participating in OBOR. The regional corridor is now in the final stage keeping in view to ensuring participation and integration of the member states for ‘holistic development’ to improve the quality of life and well being of the peoples of this region. The main thrust of this paper is to examine to what extent the One Belt One Road project may contribute for ‘holistic development of this region applying the approach of economic cooperation, political tolerance, and cultural relativism’ avoiding the ‘ethnocentric attitude’ among the nation states.
