Abstract
Temperature profiles over the surface of aero-engine components can be recorded using pyrometers, thermocouples and temperature sensors. All these methods have their own limitations; temperature indicating paints (TIPs) (or) thermal paints are kind of coating to measure the temperature distribution (or) profile through its colour change. Thermal paint is considered to be one of the most efficient ways for temperature measurement. The analysis of these paints can be done through the observation of irreversible colour change with temperature. This paper describes about the investigations done on the chemistry and behaviour of thermal paints with respect to temperature and time. The study also focuses on image processing techniques to examine the response of colour change with respect to change in temperature at high accuracy.
