Abstract
In the present work, the machinability of EN25 alloy steel was investigated using TiAlN-/AlCrN-coated and uncoated tungsten carbide (WC) cutting tools by focusing on tool wear and surface roughness. Taguchi’s design of experiments was used to find the optimized turning parameters such as cutting speed (V), feed rate (f), and depth of cut (d) which led to better surface roughness parameters and reduced flank wear. The signal-to-noise ratio was employed to assess the contribution and influence of machining parameters on the surface morphology and tool life. Better surface finish and minimum tool wear were observed as a result of TiAlN/AlCrN coating when compared to uncoated WC tool. Further, TiAlN/AlCrN coating on WC tool led to higher cutting speed, moderate feed rate, and low depth of cut. However, the uncoated WC tools exhibited moderate cutting speed, moderate feed rate, and high depth of cut as optimal levels.
