Abstract

Chapter 7 explores intersectionality as an effective analytic tool. The intersecting inequalities of class, race and nation  position IMGs as an underclass within Australia’s medical culture. Political shifts in Australia, the  US and UK are examined. These shifts reflect a political, economic and social climate around an nostalgic ideal and anti-immigration stance. Discussion outlines Australia’s extreme, exclusionary border protection policy underpinned by an obsession for whiteness and fear of the foreign, xenophobia.
