A Slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna for 5G Mobile Phone Applications

Abstract

In this paper, we consider two simulation cases of compact size microstrip patch antenna for the next generation (5G) wireless network. The designed antenna is compact with size of 6 mm × 6 mm × 1.6 mm with ground plane, which is convenient for handheld devices. We describe two microstrip patch antenna designs and compare their results. The simple patch antenna without slot provides an antenna gain of 5.17 dB at 31.62 GHz and patch antenna with ground slot provides an antenna gain 5.2 dB at 31.90 GHz which covering 5G frequency band. The microstrip is designed using HFSS software.
