Abstract

This paper documents geotechnical behaviour of sabkha soil and construction problems faced during construction on sabkha soil at a LNGI project site located in Kuwait. At proposed project area Sabkha soil (very loose to loose silty sand) with caprock was presented about −5.0 m CD to −11.0 m CD depths from seabed surface followed by medium dense to dense silty/sand up to a depths of −10.5 m CD to −17.0 m CD. Very dense sands are encountered below these depths up to about 64 m depth where soft rock was encountered. This paper discusses geotechnical investigation campaign, site reclamation geo-hazards (seismicity and liquefaction), pile construction problems and mitigation solutions.
