Abstract

This study concentrates the replacement of cement with Raw Fly Ash (RFA) and Micro Silica (MS) were investigated. The Ordinary Portland Cement is partially replaced at 15, 30, 45, and 60% with RFA and MS used to mortar preparation. The mortar specimens are prepared for evaluation of the mechanical strength of mortar and are tested at the curing days of 3, 7, 14, and 28 of ages. It is found that the strength developed with increase in replacement of cement with RFA up to an optimum value, beyond which the strength start decreasing. SEM, FTIR, and X-Ray diffraction tests were conducted on OPC, RFA, and MS samples to analyze the microstructural properties. It was observed that inert surface of RFA was transformed to more reactive one by ball milling process. The particle shape size, shape, and texture of OPC, RFA, and MS were determined by using scanning electron microscopy analysis.
