Abstract

The benefits of Ross operation include the elimination of postoperative anticoagulant therapy, and the favorable postoperative valve function. The procedure has widely been performed as autologous pulmonary valve (PV) transplantation to treat aortic valve (AV) disease predominantly in young patients. Example of good indications for the procedure include women who wish to fall pregnant or athletes who want to avoid anticoagulants, young patients for whom a suitable prosthetic valve size cannot be found, and patients with infective endocarditis.
