Abstract
The conclusion chapter revisits the central concern of the book—the pursuit of design excellence through a Competitive Design Policy (CDP) in a globally significant Central Business District (CBD). Considering the various intersections of globalisation, competitiveness, design excellence and design competitions, the chapter is comprised of four sections focused on: the diffusion of design competitions as urban policy, the nexus between design competitions and urban competitiveness, competitions as a pathway to design excellence and competitions as a tool for mediating public and private interests. These sections intersect to underpin the Sydney model’s uniqueness and the contribution that it makes to contemporary design policy for global cities.
