Abstract

Mallman begins with an autobiographical story about her Turkish immigrant mother, foregrounding the personal narratives of twenty culturally diverse second-generation migrant women. Drawing on literature about story and narrative, Mallman discusses how family stories connect children of immigrants to their cultural heritage and how these stories can offer newfound perspectives. The chapter includes a methods section outlining this qualitative research, including the use of in-depth life-story interviews, published autobiographies, autoethnography, and narrative analysis.
