Abstract

As the color, thickness and texture of skin at the pectoral region are all extremely similar to those of the cephalofacial skin, the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap (by Ariyan 1979) and thoracic triangle skin flap (by Bakamjian 1968) used to repair the cephalofacial soft tissue defects are both based on this region. However, the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap is bulky and impair the function of the donor site, and the thoracic triangle skin flap is inconvenient to use in flap transposition because of position and length of the vascular pedicle. Prof. Yixin Zhang reported the successful application thoracoacromial artery perforator flap (TAAP) in clinic practice. This flap could be used in coverage of soft tissue defects at the cephalofacial area, the shoulder joint and the superior area of the arm.
