Abstract
The module starts by examining the conceptual framework of sexual relationships in adolescence such as romantic relationships, sexual behaviours and sexual orientation. It then moves to awareness development of problems in sexual relationships, risk and protective factors, and sexual rights and responsibilities to prevent these problems and role of the State. The first problem discussed is violence in sexual relationships with reference to non-consensual sexual experiences; second is unprotected sexual relationships, namely teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortion and unwed motherhood; and third is transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV. Finally, the module facilitates development of awareness about different contraceptive methods, and the strengths and limitations of each, to protect oneself from pregnancy and STIs.
