Abstract
This module develops awareness of the prejudicing ideology of casteism, based on the Indian caste system that leads to discrimination and exclusion of Dalit children. These children are more vulnerable than other children to casteism, caste-based poverty and stereotypes about their capabilities and roles, leading to a restricted childhood, discrimination in education and occupational mobility, resulting in child abuse, child labour, exploitation as Devadasis, etc. The module develops awareness of their rights to non-discrimination and inclusion. It then develops awareness of discrimination and exclusion of tribal children who are significantly affected by tribal displacement for development projects and armed conflicts. The module develops awareness of their rights to non-discrimination and inclusion. Finally, the module reviews the Constitutional and Legal Rights of Dalits and tribals, including the policy of reservations for them. The outcome of politicisation of caste that has led to backlash from the upper castes, intercaste conflict and solidification of casteism is debated.
