Abstract

As the country’s dependence on global food market grows, gaining control over food supply chain (grain supply chain in particular) beyond the country’s borders became a policy priority for the Chinese leaders. Toward this end, China is determined to create its own “ABCD Group” or global agribusinesses. This chapter identifies three tiers of domestic agribusinesses which are supported by the Chinese government via different means to expand globally. This chapter also sheds light on the challenges and implications associated with China’s efforts to create its own global agribusinesses.
