Abstract
This chapter discusses how the Sino–Indonesia community contributes to economic and business development in the city of Singkawang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Sino-Indonesian entrepreneurs convert accumulated cultural capital into fiscal capital to ensure business success. Case studies in the chapter depict how families find economic success in the national and regional market, bringing back capital to invest in their hometown to reinforce identity through monuments and attractions for Chinese tourists. The authors contend that cultural capital is a significant asset to the Sino-Indonesian business community in Singkawang, which is behind their economic success today.
