Abstract

The synthesis of deshydroxy skyllamycins A–C (116118) described in the previous chapter laid the foundation for the synthesis of the native natural products, skyllamycins A–C (101103). While a number of synthetic challenges were overcome during the synthesis of deshydroxy skyllamycins A–C (116118), the installation of the unusual α-OH-Gly residue was not investigated. As such, before beginning the synthesis of skyllamycins A–C (101103) previous methods for investigating the installation of the unusual α-OH-Gly motif were reviewed.
