Abstract
An annular-ring microstrip antenna (ARMSA) with a defective ground structure for multiband operation is proposed. The proposed antenna operates at three different frequency bands, at S/C/X bands. Initially, the antenna is operated in dual-band mode from 1 to 12 GHz; then, by introducing an annular ring slot, a multiband mode antenna is realized. A microstrip feed line is used to excite the annular-ring patch antenna embedded on FR-4 substrate with a dielectric constant εr = 4.4. The designed antenna is circularly polarized with waveport excitation; it is best suited for multiband applications.
