Accuracy of Geolocation Data at Taman Wetland Putrajaya

The purpose of the study is to determine the accuracy of geolocation data at Taman Wetland, Putrajaya (TWP). The method used is by using three different kinds of mobile devices, namely Samsung Galaxy SIII, Lenovo Yoga B6000 and Sony Xperia Z to retrieve GPS, using an app called ‘GPS Status Test and Fix’. Each device recorded geolocation data at nine allocated points in nine locations. Data is retrieved from four different directions at every point. The results are averaged to get one longitude and latitude for each point. The accuracy of these coordinates is tested by navigating to the points using Google Map. From our findings, geolocation technology for mobile devices is accurate when it is using more than one system to produce the geolocation data. On the other hand, internet service depends on the accuracy of data. Data collected by the experiment could help Taman Wetland in implementing location-based service (LBS) for it places of interests to further enhance their visitors’ experience in the park.
