Abstract

Washington’s focus on South and Southwest Asia accelerated once the Shah of Iran is replaced with a Theocratic regime in Tehran. Moscow’s overthrow of the Monarchy in neighboring Afghanistan brings America into the subcontinent in a major shift of focus. The relationship between these events and changes in professional career are highlighted as a new world opens up for policy implementation opportunities.
